Meal prepping is essential to the lives of Crew members. We leave our houses for up to 5 days at a time and can be on a plane for +14 hours in a day. We need to meal-prep to save money and live a healthy, well-balanced life. Meal prepping as a Flight Attendant can be tricky – our food stays out of a fridge for long stretches of time, we don’t have anywhere to heat up our food on a plane, and sometimes those hotel fridges don’t treat our food very nicely.
A lot of people find meal prepping hard to manage and end up buying pre-made groceries on the road or often go out to eat. This adds up financially and sometimes we have too short of layovers. Those who don’t meal prep spend those hours on the plane eating expensive airport food, nasty airplane food, or go hungry 😦 womp womp womp.
The best way to meal prep for a 4 day pairing is to have enough fresh foods for days -1-2/3 and enough non perishables for the entire 4 days. This leaves room to go to a grocery store on the road to stock up on more fresh foods (pre-made salads, hummus and veggies, etc.) and to go out to eat with your crew once.
My grocery list for my next 4 day pairing:
- Bell Peppers
- Green Onion
- Feta Cheese
- Chick Peas
- Greek Dressing
- Rice Crackers
- Can of Soup
- Mac n Cheese
- Granola Bars
Breakfast: Oatmeal or Yogurt with Granola
Lunch: Quinoa Salad
Supper: Black Bean Soup or Mac N Cheese
Snacks: Oranges, Hummus and Veggies, Popcorn, Granola Bars
Meal Prep Tips:
- Always bring plastic baggies with you – if you order a pizza or something you could put the leftovers in the bags and they’re easier to pack (lol me like every week)
- Bring a travel mug to fill up on the coffee in the lobby on your hotel room
- Bring Tupperware to heat cans of soup up and then clean them in the sink
- Bring some vitamins with you!! I always buy the gummy ones because I’m a 12 year old and then I never forget to take them hahah
